Adoption Center Sees Rates Increase by 85 PercentThe Animal Rescue Site
TheWelland & District Humane Society in Welland, Ontario, wanted to increase its average number of cat adoptions. So, the shelter added a location inside a popular mall. The cat adoption center celebrated its two-year anniversary in early April, though the birthday wasn't the only thing to celebrate. Since moving in, the shelter has seen the adoption rate increase by 85 percent.
Center staff attributes the amazing results to the location, which has a large window that lets mall goerspeer at the animals.
"People like the mall. Look at the amazing number of cats that have been adopted," Kellie Clements, animal care worker, told Pelham News.
Guests who come in to visit one of the cats can watch the animals play or go to a more private space. The center encourages potential owners to spend one-on-one time with the animals to see if they'd be a good fit. The center may have anywhere from 15 to 50 cats at a time. Since opening the doors, guests have adopted about 1,400 cats.
Not only can potential owners watch the cats play in the mall location, they can go online and see pet profiles. The center's Facebook page features different cats, sharing their age, gender and history.
