Tuesday’s Dog: MeganM.M. Sullivan
Meet Megan, a.k.a. Moose, today’s too precious Dog of the Day! Her adopted family says, “She had [us] at hello.”
Shortly after having to put down one of our border collies, I started looking for a new dog companion for our remaining dog, Sparky. I did several online searches for puppies, and in my research I stumbled across Indian Summers Border Collie Rescue in northeastern Ohio. I had never owned a rescue dog before, but this site got me thinking about saving a dog instead of raising a pup.
I completed the adoption form and picked out 4-5 different dogs they had available to look at. My wife, daughter, Sparky, and I made the two hour drive to Indian Summers and met with Dr. Summers. He took us to look at their pens and exercise area, and then we walked by the holding area. Dr. Summers explained the different characteristics of each dog, and gave her insight on what their likes and dislikes were, if they were kid- and other-animal-friendly, and what she had observed while they were at the rescue.
She then led us to one of the play areas so she could introduce us to Megan — a large female border collie, who we think may have some regular Collie in her — who was the first of the group we had wanted to see. As we were standing in the middle of the play area, Dr. Summers released Megan and let her loose in the pen. We were not sure what to expect, but to our surprise, mostly mine, she calmly walked over to me, sat at my side, and lifted her nose up to rest it under my hand. She had me at hello. I though, “There is no way I am going to leave without this dog.”
We have now had Megan, who we affectionately call Moose, for four years. She has become a big part of our family, and she and Sparky are now best buds.
