Aging isn’t easy, regardless of your species. As time passes, our needs become more specific, and often grow in number. Perambulation can become stilted or even impossible. Chronic illness develops, certain foods can become difficult to digest, and a whole litany of other developments can make old age tough. Cats face the same difficulties, with one important caveat; they can’t tell us what they need.

Cats are notorious for refusing to show pain, making caring for an aging feline even more difficult. If they could write out their requests, or their ailments, we’d be able to care for them perfectly. Sadly, that isn’t the case. It’s up to you to pay attention to their behavior, their actions, and their reactions. Are they drinking less water? Demanding more food? Snubbing food they used to love? There are a number of changes older cats will go through, and as this video shows, the best thing to do is to be proactive. Don’t wait for your cat to talk to you!
