Musasabi: Japan’s Giant Flying Squirrel

Imagine a squirrel with soft fur, large and soulful eyes, and a cute pink button nose. Imagine it is more than two feet long (if you include the tail) and nearly three pounds in weight. Now imagine it can fly.

In Japan, a giant flying squirrel called a musasabi inhabits the islands of Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku. These not-so-little guys have been caught gliding more than 500 feet through the temperate forests they live in. Watch this fantastic nighttime glide!
