Keep an Eye on Pets with a New Tracker

Pet lovers have long considered their dogs to be part of the family. Now, they can track them just like their children with a mobile app-based device. The company Whistle has designed a monitor to attach to a dog’s collar that collects behavioral information throughout the day.

It can tell whether your dog is taking a rest, going for a walk or playing a lively session of fetch. The $100 system also tracks the amount of time spent with the owner. All of these metrics are accessible in graph form and can be shared with a veterinarian. Additionally, Whistle provides weekly and monthly reports to identify patterns that can emerge over a longer period of time.

Pet owners who may be concerned with the activity level of their pet can set goals to encourage exercise and create healthy habits. There is even a share feature that allows the user to broadcast the success of the dog hitting its activity goal on social networking sites.

Other companies have jumped on board to meet the need to monitor a pet’s daily activities. Tagg began as a GPS tracking service to help find lost pets, but now offers behavior monitoring.
