Sadly, the influenza epidemic has not receded, in fact, it is now spreading out across the Midwest and into the Southern US. Ohio, Atlanta, Alabama, California, Texas, Massachusetts, New York, Wisconsin, Michigan, New Jersey, Indiana, and Iowa all have confirmed cases of the flu. The case in Ohio is a new strain of the flu, which could mean a more dangerous situation for our pets. Remember, canine flu symptoms are similar to human flu symptoms, which can include fever, coughing, nasal discharge, and a severe lack of energy.

While the outbreak is currently limited to Cook County, it raises the importance of talking to your veterinarian about the prevention of illnesses, as well as the protocol should your dog can contract such illnesses.
