WorldAnimalDay From cat cafes in Japan to dog hotels in Austria, humanity loves to show our love for animals. But World Animal Day provides a special reason to show appreciation to our four-legged friends.

World Animal Day, first started on October 4, 1931 at a convention in Florence by a group of ecologists wanting to raise awareness for endangered animal species. Over the years, World Animal Day has evolved into a day to honor all animal life and appreciate the love and companionship we are given by our furry friends.

“October 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Since then, World Animal Day has become a day for remembering and paying tribute to all animals and the people who love and respect them,” describes WorldAnimalDay.org.uk. “It’s celebrated in different ways in every country, with no regard to nationality, religion, faith, or political ideology.”

Since 1931, World Animal Day’s transformation focuses on encouraging everyone to use the day to “commemorate their love and respect for animals by doing something special to highlight their importance in the world.”

This October 4, join in and celebrate animals at your local festivities, church ceremonies, and adoption events. Happy Animal World Day!
