Every Pet Owner Should Read This List Of Halloween Safety Tips!

It’s almost the spookiest night of the year! While Halloween is a fun and festive time for families, it can be a stressful and dangerous night for many pets. We have put together a list of 9 Halloween safety tips that you can follow to ensure that both you and your pets can stay safe and happy this holiday!

9. Limit front door access.

Keep your pets away from the front door while you’re greeting trick-or-treaters. Not only will your door be constantly opening and closing on Halloween, but strangers will be dressed in unusual costumes and yelling at you for their candy, which can obviously be extremely frightening for our pets. Even the most socialized pets can experience anxiety at the sheer number of costumes and loud noises that the night brings. Frightened pets can dart out through an open door, and anxious pets may react negatively to seeing numerous strangers approach their house by growling or barking. Providing a quiet safe place for them to retreat to will help them deal with the stress of these unusual visitors. Of course, if your pet is naturally wary of strangers or has a tendency to bite when under stress, putting them in another room during trick-or-treating hours and providing them with a safe hiding place can ease your concern as well as their stress.

8. Wear current ID tags.

If for some reason your dog or cat does escape while you are distracted by trick-or-treaters, having an updated ID tag will significantly increase the chances of having them returned to you. For this night especially, a glow-in-the-dark or reflective collar would be extremely helpful, considering there are many people out and about on Halloween. Make sure that your pet is properly identified with a collar, ID tag, and/or a microchip in case they decide to escape through an open door.
