The Fact Site reports that the Komondor comes from Hungary, where it was originally bred as a sheepdog. According to Hill’s Pet, the breed has been around since around the 9th century. The Komondor’s giant coat is one of the reasons this breed is so good at protecting sheep, because it can blend in with them. Its coat also scares away predators and provides a layer of protection in cold weather.

As you’d expect, a Komondor’s large coat requires plenty of grooming. The breed doesn’t shed much, but its fur does get dirty easily. According to the American Kennel Club, owners should learn how to groom their Komondor from an owner with grooming experience. It’s best to groom this breed every day.

Since the Komondor would spend most of its time out in the fields guarding sheep and other cattle on its own, the breed is independent and protective, especially towards children. Because of its independent nature, training is very important for these dogs.

The Komondor likes having an area to roam around, but that isn’t necessary. The breed only needs moderate exercise, so a couple walks per day keeps it satisfied. It does better in rural areas without too many neighbors, as the Komondor is a barker, and a loud one at that.

This dog is fiercely loyal and makes an excellent companion. By the way, you’d think all that hair would make it difficult to see, but that isn’t the case for the Komondor. Despite hair hanging everywhere, the breed still has sharp vision. The Komondor is a unique dog breed and would make a great addition to any family. Ready for more cool dogs?
