“Meet My Shelter Pet” is an online video series showcasing celebrities and their shelter pets. Recently, Paul Shaffer, band leader of the “Late Show With David Letterman,” and his daughter were featured in a clip. Their adopted dogs, Echo, Jake, Riley and Rue, appeared with them. The goal is to inspire people to rescue a shelter pet of their own.

“Everybody should have a shelter dog. It’s good for the soul,” Shaffer said in a statement. “All four of our dogs have been absolute gems. Why would you want to do anything else but rescue a pet?”

The videos were created by The Shelter Pet Project, which launches public service announcement campaigns directed at reducing the number of euthanized animals. In the four years since the videos were first produced, the rate has dropped 10 percent. The organization is made up of the Human Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund and the Ad Council.

Additionally, the Halo Pet Foundation is a partner of this campaign. The group was founded by Ellen DeGeneres in conjunction with her pet food brand of the same name.
