“Black Panther” Movie Is Changing The Luck Of Black Shelter Cats

Black cats get a lot of negative press and are usually associated with being spooky, evil, or unlucky. There are superstitious people who say you should not cross paths with them. However, in light of recent events in Hollywood, they are now being viewed and named after superheroes.

All along, black cats have been the same fluffy and curious cats they always were. However, the newly released movie, Black Panther has unintentionally put a positive spin on black cats. Since people are not able to have black panthers, they are heading to shelters to adopt black cats.

According to The Daily Dot, one woman on Tumblr posted, “Unexpected Benefit of “Black Panther”: my local pet shelters went from having something like 50-60 black cats between them to having NONE, because they’ve all been adopted out and named after the characters. ‘T’challa’ is the most popular, but there are a fair number of “Okoyes” and “Shuris” as well.…And one very confused Elderly Humane Society Volunteer wondering why someone would name such a sweet cat ‘Killmonger.'”

Black Cat With Toy

This is exciting news for black cats. Hopefully the negative stigma will be removed, and more black cats will find forever homes. Find adoptable black cats by clicking here. You could have Killmonger protecting your home.

However, many times when a movie comes out that features a cute animal, like Peter Rabbit, people tend to buy that animal as a pet without understanding the responsibility. That leads to more unwanted animals being brought to shelters or abandoned when their owners get sick of caring for them. Be sure that you are ready and able to care for a cat properly before you adopt one. The pet will give their heart to you, and all they ask for in return is a loving home and a bowl full of food.
