Man Abandons 3 Cats Outside Animal Shelter In Single-Digit TemperaturesAndrea Powell
The weather around the country has been way below average, with many places in the single digits and below. Animal shelters have been urging everyone to take pets inside and to remember that if you are cold, then so is your dog or cat.
One man in Houghton, Michigan, drove to Copper Country Humane Society and left one cat and two kittens in a crate outside the shelter. The shelter was closed and would not open for 30 minutes. And it was only four degrees out!
Copper Country Humane Society found the cats when staff arrived and quickly took them in to warm up. The cats were shivering, and the crate was covered in snow and feces.
The shelter made a post on Facebook, which has since been removed, reacting to this incident. Security cameras in front of the shelter caught the man in a burgundy truck abandoning the cats. According to Fox 13 News, the post stated, “We have NO problem calling you out for coming to our door, READING the sign that says not to leave animals out in the weather and STILL leaving these poor three cats outside in 4-degree weather by our door.”
The post went on to say, “There is a phone number listed you could have called, or you could have waited another 30 minutes for us to arrive and open. Are their lives not worth more than 30 minutes of your time?!”
Authorities are now looking for the man with the footage from the security camera.
Thanks to the amazing staff at the shelter, the cats are doing well and will be up for adoption in a few weeks. They found out that the adult cat is a male. The cats are on stray hold right now and are a bit nervous but warming up. See how the cats are doing in the video below.
The kitties are doing well. They're nervous but very sweet. Thanks to everyone who is concerned about them. 🙂 They are not available for visiting at this time, but should be available for adoption within the next couple of weeks.
